Mediation

Needs and Interests

To separate needs and interests from wishes or strategies is a critical steps in mediation. Often wishes or strategies are covered by the conflicting parties as needs and interests. E.g. the use of the verb “to need” in expressions like “I need to see my child every day” covers the wish, while the interest might be “to be in touch with the development of the child” or “to share everyday life with the child”.
